Your Marriage and Family – The bride and groom conclude a sacred contract for life
Your marriage and family from my grandfather's prayer book (Men in prayer). Always has been, and always will be.
Marriage has a special place among the sacraments. The bride and groom conclude a sacred contract for life before God and his church. They thus announce their intention, if it is God's will, to collaborate in his work of creation, to form themselves into donors and educators of precious human lives.
A great and holy work! So great and sacred that the Church has taken it under its very special protection, in accordance with the instructions of Christ. God and the Church show the natural instinct of man the healthy direction for the blessing of the spouses themselves and for the good of all mankind.
The holier the marriage and family, the holier and healthier the people
There the seed is sown, which later grows and becomes the luck or curse of a people. There, unrestrained lust is directed into God's will, as a test of love and loyalty until death. This love and faithfulness must be as great as Christ loves the Church and never abandons her.
God give our people good fathers and mothers and through them holy, faithful and worthy families! They are the guarantee of a better future and the strongest bulwark of the mental health of our people.
The young man prays for his bride
Good God! By your providence I may call a girl my dear bride. You gave me a big decision for my whole life. I come to you now and ask you for your fatherly advice. Let me gain clarity and confidence before the great step I am about to take in the holy sacraments of marriage. Show me what you want from me as a husband and father.
Show me what I shall be for my future wife and mother of my children. Let me give my bride a pure heart, an uncorrupted and deep down good heart. As I honor and love her purity, so shall she be able to honor and respect me, so that our marriage and both may be better and holier, and not spoil what you have given us to guard and love.
So bless our thoughts and desires, our yearning and loving. Bless each day of our nuptial time so that we may walk down the aisle with a clear conscience and with good confidence to make the covenant for life before you. Father of all, be especially our Father, since we want to take on fatherhood and motherhood. Holy Mother! I especially recommend you my dear bride!
You virgin and mother, be her protector and loving adviser. Pray for her so that, as my wife and mother of my children, she may well bear her heavy burden and become a shining example to the family and a holy priestess.
Husbands love your wives as Christ loved the Church and gave himself for her to sanctify her. See your wives as your other self, which is what they are, since you have become one in marriage. Treat them with forbearance and forbearance, guide them with gentleness. In friendly trust, tell them your affairs, which will also be theirs in this union. Thus accustom them to household chores, and enable them to bring up their children with earnestness and prudence in the fear of God.
Spouses, too, should esteem one another because they are children of God, and will be able to esteem one another the more they love one another in the full sense as children of God; the more they remember that they both have the same Heavenly Father, the same Savior who redeemed them both with His Precious Blood, the same divine Spirit who dwelt in them.
The man prays for his wife
You married me, O God, in a holy hour. The ring on my hand has been blessed by you and should always remind me of this blessing. You have wrapped an inseparable bond around us, which I have decided to do of my own free will and with the best of intentions. As a result, you yourself have become the third party. With the dangers of sin, the trials of my marriage have not failed. I have not spared dangers to love and fidelity, to the purity and sanctity of marriage. Today I ask you for my wife and wife whom you have entrusted to me.
I want to be her protector and helper. We are both human and feel our humanity. As a man, I have to protect the weaknesses of women all the more, I have to know consideration and chivalry, I have to give support and security. Remove from us all misunderstanding and all evil suspicions. Give us understanding love and a compassionate heart every day, so that we may be able to bear the sacrifices and burdens we share without complaint, and thereby become all the more dear and dear to one another.
Before you we want to find and bind each other again and again, we want to pray together and receive the sacraments so that you stay with us, just as you are wherever two people come together in your name. In you and through you our covenant remain holy and beautiful, so that we can both find each other with you forever. Amen.
You are not master, but husband. You have not married a maid, but a wife. God wanted you to be the leader of the weaker sex, not the Almighty. Reply with kindness! If by nature you are cold, you shall have the duty of tempering it for marriage, and out of reverence for her you shall cast off all coarse sentiments.
The father prays for his children
Father of all people! You gave us the children as a most beautiful blessing. Who better to dedicate it to than you! They are your children first and foremost. And it was only from you that I received the power as a father. I commend her body and soul to your mighty protection. You created them, redeemed them, you are the sustainer of their lives. Your son has become a child himself and has been subject to his parents for most of his life, so that all children may become holy through him. Make her body your holy temple, where you dwell with joy. Preserve their hearts from sin and bad habits!
Let them never be blinded to the follies of this world. I would like to educate them in a good way, as far as it is in my power. Give me the right measure of love and severity, of patience and good discipline, so that I can punish and reward, admonish and forgive at the right time. Give me the right word at the right time and the power of example in every situation.
In this way, obedience becomes a joy and respect for their parents a matter of course. Leave in my children a pure and tender conscience, protecting them from temptation and calling them to good! May a noble love for fellow human beings awaken in you, a joy in giving joy to others.
In difficult hours give them trust in you and light in the hour of darkness. You love her more than we can love her. And you are more faithful than we can be. One day we would like to find our children with you again in the eternal happiness to which we want to educate them. Amen.
The most successful and therefore the happiest are still, even today, those parents and educators who really come to their children from God and with the splendor of divine mission. The child does not know what is right, but we should know, for this God has placed unreasonable children in the hands of reasonable parents.
Prayer for the expectant mother
You strong, holy and just God! You have generously bestowed innumerable benefits on your chosen people, our fathers and ancestors. You have made the dear Mother of God a worthy dwelling place for your son in body and soul. Already in the womb you filled St. John with the Holy Spirit. A mother humbly asks for the life and prosperity of her child.
Accept the sacrifices she makes for his sake. You entrusted this child to her womb. Guard what is yours and protect it from all the cunning and wickedness of the Evil Enemy. Lend your merciful help to this mother so that the young life sees the light of day happily and is preserved for the merciful rebirth of baptism. In everything may it serve you and one day attain eternal life. Amen.
Father's blessing
Often, especially in the morning or in the evening, when parting and on other occasions, the father makes the cross on his children's foreheads with holy water and says:
I bless Almighty God, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
The father consecrates his family to the Lord God
Where a beautiful cross hangs in its place of honor, the father often gathers his family. He makes the consecration to God and to the Holy Family of Nazareth, renewing it from time to time alone or with his relatives.
Consecration Prayer
O Jesus, our most gracious Redeemer, you came from heaven to enlighten the world by doctrine and example. You spent most of your earthly life in obedience to your parents Mary and Joseph in the poor house of Nazareth and sanctified your family so that it may be an example to all Christian families. Accept this house, which is now dedicated to you, graciously and generously! Protect and bless it, and with your holy fear establish in it the peace and unity of Christian love, that it may become like the holy house of Nazareth, and lead all its members to everlasting happiness.
O Most Gracious Mother of Jesus and also our Mother, Mary, through your love and gentleness, cause Jesus to graciously accept the solemn consecration and grant us his benefits and blessings. O blessed Joseph, you caring protector of Jesus and Mary, come to our aid in all afflictions of soul and suffering with your intercession, so that we give eternal praise and thanksgiving to our divine Redeemer Jesus Christ with you and the Blessed Virgin Mary. Amen.
Daily prayer before the image of the Holy Family O most loving Jesus, who by your unspeakable virtues and by the examples of your home life have consecrated your chosen family on earth, look down graciously on this family of ours, which prostrate themselves at your feet and beg your mercy. Remember that this family belongs to you because they have dedicated and dedicated themselves to you in special devotion.
Protect her graciously, rescue her from danger, stand by her in her needs and give her the strength to always persevere in your service, to remain true to your love and finally to be able to praise and praise you forever in heaven. O Mary, sweetest Mother, we beseech your protection in the firm confidence that your divine begotten Son will also hear your entreaties. And you too, glorious Patriarch, Saint Joseph, come to our aid with your mighty protection and entrust our petitions to Mary, so that she may offer them to Jesus Christ. Amen.
Prayer in honor of the Holy Family O God of goodness and mercy, to your almighty protector we commend our home, family and all we possess. Bless us all as you blessed the Holy Family in Nazareth. Most Holy Redeemer Jesus Christ, through the love with which you became man to save us, through the mercy by which you died on the cross for us, we ask you to bless our home, our family and those in our household. Preserve us from all evil and human snares, protect us from lightning, hail, danger of fire, from flooding and unfavorable weather; save us from your wrath, from the hatred and evil intentions of our enemies, from plague, famine and war.
Do not allow any of us to die without the Holy Sacraments. Grant us your blessing so that we may steadfastly profess our faith, which leads us to sanctification, so that even in suffering and tribulation we may keep our hope and always make progress in love for you and for our neighbor. O Jesus, bless and protect us! O Mary, Mother of grace and mercy, bless us, protect us against the evil enemy, guide us through this vale of tears by your motherly hand; reconcile us to your Son and commend us to him, that we may be worthy of his promise. Saint Joseph, foster father of our Redeemer, protector of his holy mother and head of the holy family, be our intercessor, bless and protect our benefactors at all times. Saint Michael, defend us from all the wickedness of Hell.
Holy Gabriel, let us know the will of God. Saint Raphael, save us from disease and danger of life. Holy Guardian Angel, sustain us day and night on the path of salvation, You holy patrons, pray for us at the throne of God. Yes, bless this house, God Father, who created us, God Son, who suffered for us on the cross, and God Holy Spirit, who sanctified us in baptism. May the Most Holy Trinity protect our bodies, purify our souls, guide our hearts and lead us to eternal life. Glory to the father, glory to the son, Glory to the Holy Spirit. Amen.
